Description

A very heavy bracket clock by Winterhalder & Hofmeier with a Whittington chime on 8 bells and a Westminster chime on 4 spiral gongs, marked W&H No. 3001 The simple, architecturally structured case, crafted from oak, is topped by a gable (cracked where the two panels meet). The plinth is structured in a brick-like pattern. The square dial is divided into three sections: the Roman numeral display for minutes and hours, the left-hand sub-dial for regulating the clock, and the right-hand sub-dial for selecting the melody (Westminster or Whittington). The large movement, complete with chain and worm gear for the timekeeping, striking and melody mechanisms, has been thoroughly cleaned and re-adjusted; it is marked ‘W&H Sch. 4’ and ‘3001’ (all parts of this clock are also marked with the number 4). The clock runs for approximately 8 days and strikes the quarter and full hours. The overall condition is quite good; the case shows no signs of woodworm, though it may have been restored at some point in the past (there are very faint traces of wax in some corners). A matching key is included in the offer. Dimensions: Height: 46 cm Width: 34 cm Depth: 23.5 cm
