Description
Rare silver songbird box No. 162, probably by Karl Griesbaum, circa 1925; in working order. This delicate box, lavishly decorated on all sides (with birds, rocaille and further floral motifs), is in good condition; it bears a faint hallmark on the side, is made of silver (assayed), and has a small compartment on the back specifically for the key. The mechanism is activated by operating the slider on the front, whereupon the small lid opens and the bird (which moves its beak, wings and tail) sings its song. The mechanism and bellows are in good, clean and working order. The movement is marked 162.
