Description

A lovely fire-gilded bronze pendulum clock, ‘Lovers’, signed Japy Frères, Louis-Philippe period, circa 1835 An architecturally structured plinth, adorned with lavish floral decoration, upon which sits the couple gazing lovingly at one another, with the man holding a small pocket watch in his hand (as a symbol of transience). The fire-gilding is in good condition; the polished surfaces show wear and tear from use (see photographs); a tassel is missing from the cushion (on the side). Fully functional, round pendulum movement with an anchor escapement, thread pendulum and lock-disc striking mechanism; this strikes a bell on the half-hour and full hour, with a power reserve of approximately 8 days; it is marked ‘Japy Frères Médaille d’Or’. Fine enamelled dial, which has some hairline cracks. A matching pendulum, key and bell are included. Height: 41 cm Width: 29 cm Depth: 12 cm
