Description

The four columns, flanked by bronze bases and capitals, rise from the semi-circular plinth with stepped recesses lined with beaded mouldings; these columns support the clock case, which is surrounded by four vase finials and two acanthus leaves; the top is crowned by a vase finial. The gilded fittings are in good condition; the gilding on the clock case is partially worn, and the marble is slightly chipped and discoloured at the corners. The case has been completely dismantled; all individual parts have been carefully cleaned and subsequently reassembled. The movement, featuring a thread suspension mechanism and half-hour and hour striking mechanisms on a bell, has been completely overhauled and readjusted by a master watchmaker (all parts derusted, pivots polished, worn bearings replaced, the escape wheel reground and polished, the escapement readjusted, springs checked for cracks and replaced where necessary, expertly oiled with special lubricants); it runs for approximately 14 days. The enamel dial is undamaged apart from a chip near the left-hand winding hole and on the regulating shaft; it is marked ‘Farquharson a Paris’. Dimensions: Height: 49.5 cm Width: 36 cm Depth: 12 cm The pendulum, key and a bell are included in the offer.
