Description

The portal clock, veneered with rosewood and ebony, is in good condition for its age; there is merely a wormhole in the clock case and slight wear to the corners, whilst the gilding on the bronze is in good condition. The plinth is a matching design (slightly worm-eaten, old, inactive); it is inscribed with various numbers as well as ‘Ebene maitre? Boi o. Roi’. Of particular note is the original, undamaged, delicate glass dome. The movement, featuring an ornamental pendulum and half-hour and hour striking mechanisms, has been fully overhauled and re-adjusted by a master watchmaker (all parts derusted, pivots polished, worn bearings replaced, the anchor reground and polished, the escapement readjusted, springs checked for cracks and replaced where necessary, expertly oiled with special lubricants); it runs for approximately 14 days and is marked ‘Japy Frères’ The enamelled dial with Roman numerals is undamaged apart from very minor damage below the VI Dimensions: Height: 60 cm Width: 28 cm Depth: 18 cm The pendulum, key and a bell are included in the offer. Preferably for collection in person (the glass cover is made of such thin glass that it would not survive transport).
