Description
Large Parisian pendulum clock in fire-gilt bronze, ‘Allegory of Music’, c. 1820, Restoration period The case is supported by four feet in the shape of angled acanthus leaves, upon which rests the angular plinth, featuring a figure of Cupid surrounded by garlands and palmettes as well as two torches, pointing towards the dial; above this, centred, is the clockwork mechanism, atop which sits the young lady playing music, holding a kithara on her lap. The bronze case is in good condition for its age; the fire-gilding (original, not re-gilded!!!) is well preserved, though the polished areas are slightly worn (see photographs). The movement, featuring a thread suspension and hook escapement, has been fully overhauled and re-adjusted by a master watchmaker; it runs for approximately 14 days and strikes the half and full hours on a bell; it is marked ‘Marti et Compagnie’ on the dial side. The guilloché dial is silver-plated, and the numerals are applied. Dimensions: Height: 50 cm Width: 38 cm Depth: 14 cm
