Description
Large Parisian pendule clock in fire-gilt bronze, depicting Cupid and Psyche, circa 1815, Empire period The case is supported by four florally decorated feet, upon which rests the angular plinth, atop which are placed several incense burners surrounded by butterflies and kitharas; above this, centred above Psyche’s head, is the clockwork mechanism; to the left of this stands Cupid holding an arrow and a rose; to the right is a kithara placed on a pedestal, along with a bow. The bronze case is in good condition for its age; the fire-gilding (original, not re-gilded!!!) is well preserved, though the polished areas are slightly worn (see photographs). The movement, featuring a thread suspension and hook escapement, has been fully overhauled and readjusted by a master watchmaker; it runs for approximately 14 days and strikes the half-hours and full hours on a bell. The guilloché dial is also fire-gilded; the numerals were painted on at a later date. Dimensions: Height: 52 cm Width: 36 cm Depth: 13 cm
