Description
62 cm Large fire-gilt and burnished bronze pendulum clock depicting Gaius Marius, circa 1820, Paris A plinth supported by four feet and divided by an acanthus leaf moulding, featuring a superimposed relief (numerous Roman attributes); above this, centred on the plinth, is the clock mechanism upon which Gaius Marius sits. The original fire-gilding (matt and polished) and the burnishing are in good condition, as are the polished areas (rear); the burnishing on the front of the plinth is slightly patchy. The functioning movement, featuring a thread-suspension pendulum, anchor escapement and lock-disc striking mechanism (full and half hours), has been expertly overhauled and adjusted; with a running time of approximately 8 days; this is attributed to Pons (Pierre-César Honoré Pons (1773–1851)). The fire-gilded dial with Roman numerals is in good condition for its age. Dimensions: Height: 62.5 cm Width: 45 cm Depth: 16 cm
