Description
Large fire-gilded bronze ‘Urania’ pendulum clock, Epoque Restoration, circa 1820 An architecturally structured, multi-part plinth resting on four florally decorated feet, with a band of acanthus leaves running all round; on the front, applied decorations (signs of the zodiac, a telescope, laurel leaves, tassels, palmettes); above this, centred on the pedestal, is the clock case, upon which Urania—crowned with a starry diadem—leans thoughtfully against a celestial globe, holding a compass in her right hand. The fire-gilding is in good condition (barely any wear); only the polished surfaces on the reverse are scuffed and stained. The lower section of the plinth on the front (right and left) shows slight deformations (see photographs) as well as a scratch. Fully functional (refurbished), round pendulum movement with a lock-disc strike for full and half hours on a bell, anchor escapement and thread pendulum; power reserve approximately 8 days. Fire-gilded dial with a silver-plated star set in the centre, A matching pendulum, key and bell are included. Height: 55.5 cm Width: 39.5 cm Depth: 15 cm
