Description
Large bronze pendulum clock depicting Nicolaus Copernicus, Louis Philippe, c. 1830 The imposing, florally decorated case is crowned by a figure of Nicolaus Copernicus seated on a chair and examining his notes; to his right stands a celestial globe, whilst the clockwork mechanism is integrated into the chair. The bronze case is in good condition; unfortunately, the gilding on the reverse is heavily worn (see photographs), and the positioning pin of the sheet he is holding in his left hand was soldered some time ago. The movement, featuring a thread suspension and hook escapement, has been fully overhauled and readjusted by a master watchmaker; it runs for approximately 14 days and strikes the half and full hours on a bell; it is unmarked. The guilloché and silver-plated dial has been fitted with new numerals (brass, blackened). Dimensions: Height: 57.5 cm Width: 45 cm Depth: 16 cm
