Description
Impressive pendulum clock set, attributed to Virgilio Maroni (Virgil), France, c. 1870 Sculpture by Albert Ernest Carrier Belleuse (1824–1887) This clock has been completely overhauled!!! The impressive clock stands on a wide marble plinth; above the movement is a dilapidated (intentionally so) fluted column surrounded by vine leaves, next to which stands the poet Virgil, crafted from zinc (inscribed ‘Virgilio Maroni’ above the movement). The two large candlesticks are designed in the same style. The set is in good condition (slight wear to the varnish). The movement has been fully overhauled by a master clockmaker (all parts derusted, pivots polished, worn bearings replaced, the anchor reground and polished, the escapement readjusted, springs checked for cracks and replaced where necessary, and expertly oiled with special lubricants), it runs for approximately 14 days and strikes the half and full hours on a bell. The engraved marble dial is well preserved. Dimensions: Clock Height: 62 cm Width: 42 cm Depth: 18 cm Side table Height: 63 cm The pendulum, key and a bell are included in the offer. Due to its size and fragility, this item cannot be posted; therefore, collection in person only (98701 Herschdorf).
