Description

The cabinet, 59 cm wide and 213 cm high, is made of heavy German oak (lightly stained); the lower section features a door set into it, adorned with the finest carvings and fluted columns, above which rise the two solid, full-height columns that support the imposing, column-flanked headpiece with a wide cornice; a panel featuring the finest carvings (acanthus leaves, a mermaid and an eagle) is set into the back panel. The case is in good condition for its age (two small side mouldings are missing from the door at the base; one moulding on the top is slightly dented at the side) The very solid, functioning movement with an anchor escapement runs for about 8 days; the hour strike is sounded on a single large spiral gong. The original, gilded and silver-plated weights (dented at the edges) and the pendulum are exquisitely decorated with fruit and foliage. The very beautiful, exquisitely decorated dial is in good condition. Height: 213 cm Width: 59 cm Depth: 36 cm
