Description
The case is supported by two elaborately carved grotesque feet; two intricately decorated bronze mouldings divide the marble plinth, upon which sits a putto drinking from a shell, alongside another putto embracing him. The case was completely dismantled; all individual parts were carefully cleaned and subsequently reassembled. The burnishing is slightly worn in places; the fire-gilding is well preserved apart from slight wear; the marble has touch-ups to the edges and various chips. The movement, featuring a resting anchor escapement, has been fully overhauled and readjusted by a master watchmaker (all parts derusted, pivots polished, worn bearings replaced, 2 gears replaced, the escapement readjusted, springs checked for cracks and replaced where necessary, expertly oiled with special lubricants); it runs for approximately 14 days and strikes the half and full hours on a bell, which is unmarked. The fire-gilt dial with Roman enamel cartouches is undamaged apart from a small chip at the II (the glazed bezel is screwed in). Dimensions: Height: 60 cm Width: 45 cm Depth: 18 cm Due to the delicate nature of the case, collection in person is recommended.
