Description
Original gilded Louis XVI-style candelabra, circa 1850 or 1780? The conical, fluted shaft (with a circumferential beaded moulding) rests on the round, fluted base adorned with a continuous acanthus leaf motif; this shaft terminates in a finial decorated with acanthus leaves, atop which sits the two-armed candelabrum, which is a lavishly decorated vase-shaped finial; provincial work from the 19th century. Possibly also from the 18th century, with later (if from the 18th century) relatively thick gilding (c. 1850/60); this shows partial wear and small areas of loss, but presents a neat overall impression. The base bears an old inventory number (very difficult to make out on one candlestick), possibly from a larger castle (24. No. 43006, 9730); it is also stamped several times with the letter ‘Z’. Dimensions: H: 41.5 cm
