Description
Impressive historicist pendulum clock set in blue ceramic and gilded bronze, attributed to Mougin, circa 1890 This clock has been fully restored!!! The gilded bronze case, in the Louis XV style, is shaped like an urn-shaped vase with two handles in the form of coiling snakes, the upper rim is formed by a wreath of foliage culminating in a pine cone, whilst the multi-part pedestal is flanked by two winged dragons. The two seven-branched candlesticks are designed to match. They are in good condition; the gilding is largely intact, though it is patchy in a few places (the base metal has oxidised), and the porcelain shows no major damage; only on one side table is the upper edge of the ceramic chipped off over a few centimetres, concealed by the bronze finial. Due to its instability (the screwed-on ceramic parts), the clock will only be dispatched in a disassembled state. The case has been completely dismantled and cleaned. The movement, featuring a spring-suspended pendulum and a hook escapement, has been fully overhauled and readjusted by a master watchmaker (all parts derusted, pivots polished, worn bearings replaced, anchor reground and polished, escapement readjusted, springs checked for cracks and replaced where necessary, expertly oiled with special lubricants), it has been running for around 14 days and strikes the half-hours and full hours on a bell; this is known as a ‘Mougin’. The Baroque-style dial with blue Roman numerals is undamaged. Dimensions: Height: 52 cm Width: 27.5 cm Depth: 14 cm Height of the candlesticks: 60 cm The pendulum, key and bell are included in the offer.
