Description
The imposing bronze-cast case is adorned with numerous acanthus leaf motifs and a woman’s face; the top is crowned with a vase-shaped finial. Brass grilles backed with gold-plated sheet metal are fitted to the sides and in the centre. The gilding is well preserved, apart from slight localised wear. In this instance, the case has not been cleaned (only dusted) in order to preserve the original patina. The large dial with 12 enamel cartouches (in blue) is well preserved; the bezel is fitted with a faceted glass. The movement (fully overhauled – all parts derusted, pivots polished, worn bearings replaced, anchors reground and polished, escapement readjusted, springs checked for cracks and replaced where necessary, expertly oiled with special lubricants)) runs for approximately 14 days; it strikes the half-hours and full hours on a bell; the 7 o’clock position is marked with: H&F 1948 and 1877 (presumably the year of manufacture). Dimensions: Height: 91 cm Width: 40 cm Depth: 19 cm Weight: 23 kg The pendulum, key and a bell are included in the offer.
