Description

High-quality, original, perfectly preserved, fire-gilded bronze Apollon Paris Epoque Restoration 1820 pendulum clock The case is supported by four square feet, upon which rests the square plinth, adorned with a bouquet of trumpets and victory wreaths; upon this stands the simple clock case, atop which sits the triumphant Apollo alongside his lyre. The burnishing of some decorative elements, as well as of Apollo himself, provides a wonderful contrast to the very well-preserved fire-gilding. The bronze case is in very good condition for its age; the fire-gilding is very well preserved, as are the polished areas, whilst the burnishing is also original and has a slightly greenish hue. The movement, featuring a thread suspension and hook escapement, has been fully overhauled and re-adjusted by a master watchmaker; it runs for approximately 14 days and strikes the half and full hours on a bell; it is marked ‘Pons’ on the dial side. Unfortunately, the two-tone dial is slightly oxidised, though this complements the watch’s overall appearance well. Dimensions: Height: 50 cm Width: 34 cm Depth: 12.5 cm
