Description
Fire-gilded Empire-style bronze portal clock with signs of the zodiac, c. 1800 The case is supported by four flattened spherical feet; the two-part plinth is adorned with various floral motifs, upon which stand the four bronze columns with acanthus-leaf capitals, which support the top section; this is decorated with two lion heads facing inwards and two dragons, whilst the clockwork is set in the centre and the dial is surrounded by the 12 signs of the zodiac. The case has been completely dismantled; all individual parts have been carefully cleaned and subsequently reassembled. The original fire-gilding is in good condition; unfortunately, the gilding on the plinth is worn (see photographs). The movement, featuring a thread suspension and hook escapement, runs for approximately one week and strikes the half and full hours on a bell; it has been fully overhauled and readjusted. The enamel dial with Roman numerals is, unfortunately, slightly damaged around the winding mechanisms. The delicate lily-shaped hands are likely to be the originals; the hour hand has a small chip. Dimensions: Height: 38.5 cm Width: 22 cm Depth: 14.5 cm The key, pendulum and a bell are included in the offer.
