Description
Fire-gilded Charles X bronze ‘Lyra’ pendule mantel clock, circa 1825, attributed to Barbier in Paris and Pons The large Lyra, adorned with lavish bronze decoration (rocaille, laurel leaves), rests upon an ebonised plinth supported by four feet and featuring a continuous acanthus leaf moulding; the upper section is crowned by a palmette finial. The original fire-gilding is very well preserved; the wood is undamaged apart from a few scratches and a stress crack (above the movement). The case was completely dismantled, all individual parts carefully cleaned and subsequently reassembled. The functioning movement, featuring a thread-suspension pendulum, anchor escapement and lock-disc striking mechanism (full and half hours), has been expertly overhauled and adjusted; the power reserve is approximately 8 days. This is attributed Pons (Pierre-César Honoré Pons (1773–1851)). The guilloché, silver-plated dial with Roman numerals is signed ‘Barbier a Paris’ (in pristine, untreated original condition). According to Tardy, he was based in Rue Greneta from 1812 to 1830. Dimensions: Height: 44 cm Width: 18 cm Depth: 13 cm The key, pendulum and a bell are included in the offer.
