Description
Exceptional fire-gilded bronze ‘Amor’ clock, Empire period, circa 1815 An architecturally structured, multi-part pedestal resting on four florally decorated feet, with a surrounding acanthus leaf moulding; on the front is a raised appliqué (Cupid’s bow with a wreath of roses and laurel), upon which stands the winged Cupid holding a rose in his left hand; a quiver lies on the floor. Next to it is the dial alongside a brazier with a butterfly (love triumphs over death). The fire-gilding is in very good condition (barely any wear), as are the polished surfaces (not re-polished). Fully functional (serviced), round pendulum movement with a lock-disc strike for full and half hours on a bell, anchor escapement and thread pendulum; power reserve approximately 8 days. Fire-gilded dial with floral decoration; the Roman numerals show some wear. A matching pendulum, key and bell are included. Height: 46 cm Width: 29 cm Depth: 11 cm
