Description

Empire pendulum clock ‘Ceres’ or ‘Allegory of Autumn’ in fire-gilded bronze, France, c. 1820 Case with a plinth supported by four square feet and divided by an acanthus frieze, surmounted by a relief (putti, Zephyr); above this, on the right, stands the clock case, flanked by Ceres with her basket, wreaths and shepherd’s crook, and crowned by a sheaf of ears of corn. The case is in good condition for its age; the original fire-gilding (somewhat worn) shows age-related wear (on the plinth and sides). The attached ear of corn above the movement has a small chip. Cast, fire-gilded dial with Roman numerals. Blued Breguet hands. The movement features a time and strike mechanism for the full and half hours on a single bell, an anchor escapement, a thread pendulum, and a power reserve of 14 days (recently professionally overhauled). Matching pendulum and 1 key are included. See photographs for further details. Height: 47 cm Width: 34.5 cm Depth: 11.5 cm
