Description
The two columns rest on the oval base with a bronze inlay; each is crowned by an oak finial. The clockwork mechanism is mounted in the centre, and the top is finished with a vase-shaped finial. The fire-gilding is in good condition; only the polished areas show signs of wear. The case was completely dismantled, all individual parts were carefully cleaned and then reassembled. The movement, featuring a spring suspension (originally a thread suspension, later modified) and half-hour and hour striking mechanisms, has been fully overhauled and readjusted by a master watchmaker (all parts derusted, pivots polished, worn bearings replaced, the anchor reground and polished, the escapement readjusted, mainsprings checked for cracks and replaced where necessary, expertly oiled with special lubricants); it runs for approximately 14 days. It definitely dates from the 18th century, as can be clearly seen from the pivots, the gearing and the escapement. The enamel dial is slightly damaged in places. The very fine fire-gilt Louis XVI hands are the originals. Dimensions: Height: 32.5 cm Width: 21 cm Depth: 9.5 cm The pendulum, key and a bell are included in the offer.
