A very heavy bracket clock, described by Leuchars & Sons as ‘Geffroy Succeseur Paris’, with a Whittington chime on 8 bells and a Westminster chime on 4 spiral gongs; the case is made of Makassar ebony The simple, architecturally structured case, crafted from Makassar ebony, is topped by a curved pediment and features floral, curved inlays on the sides. The arched dial, with its applied, silver-plated numeral ring and various subsidiary dials (chime off, regulation and melody selection), is in a good, original condition. The large, solid movement, with a chain and worm gear for the time-keeping, striking and melody mechanisms, runs for approximately 8 days and strikes the quarter and full hours; it is in good, working order. This clock can play either the Westminster chime on 4 Spiragongs or the Whittington chime on 8 bells; the hour strike is played on a large spiral gong.
