Description
The heavy case is made of marble and gilded bronze (in the form of flowers, ribbons and garlands), and a large Wedgewood plaque is set into the front (unfortunately cracked in two places, though this is not very noticeable). The case was completely dismantled and cleaned by hand. The fine Parisian pendulum movement, featuring a hook escapement and half-hour strike (via a rake), has been fully overhauled by a master watchmaker and runs for around 8 days; unfortunately, the manufacturer’s hallmark has been ground away to pass it off as an original, i.e. from the time of Louis XI. The fine, enamelled dial is very well preserved; it is painted in the Coteau style and marked ‘Robin A Paris’. The lot includes a matching thread pendulum and 1 matching key (both replaced). Dimensions of the clock: Height: 43 cm Width: 31 cm Depth: 11 cm
