Description

A beautiful Gründerzeit ‘Ceres’ pendulum clock in gilded bronze with a porcelain insert, attributed to Vincenti & Cie., circa 1855 The richly curved case, decorated with numerous rocaille motifs and bouquets of flowers, is crafted from gilded bronze; the clock is mounted on the right, whilst to its left stands the young Ceres, holding a sheaf of wheat in her left hand and a sickle in her right. A blue porcelain plate is set into the base below the movement. The bronze case is in good condition for its age; the gilding is partially worn but largely intact. The movement, featuring a spring suspension and hook escapement, has been fully overhauled and reset by a master watchmaker; it runs for approximately 14 days and strikes the half and full hours on a bell. It is marked: Vincenti & Ci Medaille D’Argent The dial, featuring blue Roman numerals and black Arabic numerals, is undamaged. The original console (now patinated to a gold-bronze finish), along with a replacement key and a matching pendulum, are included in the offer. Dimensions including base: Height: 45 cm Width: 58 cm Depth: 20 cm Dimensions without base: Height: 40 cm Width: 55 cm Depth: 15 cm
