Description

The case is supported by four feet; the front ones are decorated with palmettes. Above these stands the square plinth featuring an allegorical depiction of Artemis and Endymion?, centrally positioned on top of this is the clockwork mechanism, upon which Artemis sits, flanked by a bow, a quiver and a hunting dog. The bronze case is in good condition for its age; the fire-gilding (original, not re-gilded!!!) is well preserved (various minor oxidation spots) The case was completely dismantled, all individual parts carefully cleaned and subsequently reassembled. The movement, featuring a thread suspension and hook escapement, was completely overhauled and readjusted by a master watchmaker (all parts derusted, pivots polished, worn bearings replaced, anchor reground and polished, escapement readjusted, springs checked for cracks and replaced where necessary, expertly oiled with special lubricants), it runs for approximately 14 days and strikes the half-hours and full hours on a bell. The finely guilloché dial is also fire-gilded; the numerals are painted (slightly worn), and the lower edge is worn at the sides. Dimensions: Height: 36 cm Width: 22 cm Depth: 10 cm The pendulum, key and bell are included in the offer.
